Great Lakes Institute of Management, has published the placement data for the Class of 2014 of its One Year MBA (PGPM). The B-School reports that the 10th batch of PGPM achieved 100% placements as well as witnessed an increase in number of recruiters, offers made and compensation levels. Average salary awarded at the institute this year is Rs 11.43 lakh which as per the institute has been calculated on the basis of both domestic offers and 9 international offers.
As per the report, the PGPM 2014 batch consisted of 358 students with industry experience ranging between 2 to 6 years.
Off-campus offers were made by Acccenture BPO, Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances, Calderys India,CRISIL, Dubai, Finoit Technologies, Grace Construction Products, People Strong, Raising iBrows, Sewells Group, Thinklink, etc.
Professor S. Sriram, Executive Director, Great Lakes Institute of Management, said, “We are very happy with the response we have received from the corporate world despite tough economic conditions, with a larger and more diverse base of Recruiters than ever before. This is testament to the confidence of our corporate partners in the quality of our graduates and we look forward to serving their talent needs in the years to come.”
In the 10th year of the establishment of the institute, the institute got international recognition in the form of global full time MBA accreditation for its One Year MBA (PGPM) and Part-time Masters in Business Management accreditation for its two-year part-time PGXPM programme by Association of MBAs, UK (AMBA). AMBA is one of the top 3 global accreditation bodies, and the only one to accredit courses instead of B-Schools.
Great Lakes is in good company – IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, MDI, IMI, IIM Kozhikode, SP Jain, Mumbai are the only other B-Schools in India to get this accreditation. These B-Schools too have received Full Time MBA accreditation solely for their One Year Full Time courses (barring IIM K which doesn’t have a One Year MBA and has been granted MBM accreditation for its PGP and Part time MBA accreditation for its EPGP).
To understand how an MBM programme differs from an MBA read this.
Great Lakes says that the accreditation awarded by AMBA reflects the world class standards followed by Great Lakes. The B-School says that it expects that increasingly corporates are going to use global benchmarking in their choice of schools for recruitment and Great Lakes would be a natural partner of choice.

Can you please also throw some light on the second campus of Great lakes at Gurgaon
Hi abhishek, Great lakes chennai obviously scores over the gurgaon campus - its a sprawling facility and the gurgaon campus is constrained by the small campus size.
Hello. This is a good overview of Great LAKES 1 Yr program. My query is however related to the fact that Great lakes is well known for its exposure into the field of Marketing. However considering the oppurtunity cost , brand name , and fututre prospects would Great lakes 1 yr program be ideal for a candidate with interest in marketing field or a 2yr full time PGDM(C) in MICA ahmedabad....?
Hi Ayush, MICA has a good brand name and will get you good openings in marketing at an entry level. Great Lakes is relatively new but better suited to getting you a lateral entry - which is what you want if you have work experience. Have a look at placements provided by great lakes - we aren't sure if it can be classified as a marketing heavy school -http://www.oneyearmba.co.in/11-43-lakhs-average-domestic-salary-international-32-lakhs-highest-domestic-salary-great-lakes-2014-pgpm-one-year-mba-placements-recruiters-pgdm/
Consulting, Finance are on power with Marketing as far as sectors hiring from great lakes go.
I think we should flag one issue here - as far as FMCG companies go, most of them have been hiring at an entry level from pgp/ pgdm programmes in India - few of them have changed their processes as yet to hire proper MBA talent in India (i.e people who understand business having already worked for 5-6 years). These same companies routinely hire from INSEAD, Oxford (1 year MBAs) and Harvard, Wharton etc - but FMCG companies here are taking time to change track.
So if you are looking for roles in FMCG - pre-experience programmes are the way to go for now. Its odd, but hey, here in India we like dancing to our own tune don't we!
Hi,
Is it possible to get the breakup of the placement for domestic offers alone ? Like top 100 average offer etc.
Dear Dr Watson, I wish I could have said the answer was elementary - but unfortunately it is not. Great Lakes presents its placements report with domestic + international data combined. We can see why you would need the domestic only data and why it would be helpful to many like you.
We did ask the great lakes team and this is what would could glean - International offers were only 9 for a batch of 358 students and so great lakes has chosen to present the data in a combined manner.
Dear Admin,
Even if 9 students had gotten an average salary of around 70KUSD, then it would have brought down the average salary to around 10.2 lakhs. It is just a shame that these Bschools are so opaque about the finer details :(. If only Mr.Holmes was available, then he would have solved this mystery in a jiffy :D. Anways thanks admin for the follow up :)
hi. i have a question. i am fresh graduate. is really worthful to do PGPM course from great lakes?
Hi shrabanti, PGPM at Great Lakes is an MBA level programme and needs work experience of 2+ years. You are however eligible for the two-year MBM programme called PGDM. Whether the programme is suitable for you depends on many factors. Just the way the same trousers don't fit everyone, a programme may be suitable or unsuitable for you, depending on your aspirations, GMAT score, work experience, achievements etc.
