INSEAD Tweaks MBA Curriculum To Create Responsible Leaders And Entrepreneurs

INSEAD had revamped its curriculum aiming to increase resources for students’ personal leadership development and to create more learning opportunities around the concept of “Business and Society.”

With the first batch of students who followed the revised curriculum having graduated, the B-school stated that the main objective was to develop responsible leaders and entrepreneurs with both analytical and leadership excellence.

It focuses on personal, interpersonal and communication awareness with professional and peers feedback, the PLDP approaches leadership development as an “inside-out process” that gives voice to a student’s inner value system,

The newly-introduced core course, ‘Business and Society’ covers ethics, public policy and political environments and aligns with Dean Ilian Mihov’s vision of using business as a force for good, the school says on its website.

“By introducing this course into our MBA curriculum, we hope to equip and inspire our students to live these values and carry them forward,” the Dean says.

Realising that even business leaders who are aware of the impact their organisations have on the world may lack the ability to turn that awareness into action, the school created the Personal Leadership Development Program (PLDP).

It focuses on personal, interpersonal and communication awareness with professional and peers feedback, the PLDP approaches leadership development as an “inside-out process” that gives voice to a student’s inner value system, says Derek Deasy, Affiliate Professor of Organisational Behaviour and PLDP Director.

Dean of Degree Programs and Associate Professor of Finance Urs Peyer says the PLDP has received valuable feedback and has been adapted and expanded accordingly. “The professional coaching embedded in the leadership journey throughout the MBA program helps to increase self-awareness and improve interpersonal skills and communication effectiveness,” he adds.

Other curriculum enhancements include an online “digital start” programme (P0) before students arrive on campus and a new capstone course that builds on the successful “Your First Hundred Days” elective to help them prepare for their post-MBA careers.

The curriculum will continue to evolve and bring the students the latest in management research to make the graduates top-notch hiring candidates.

INSEAD’s one-year MBA Program, with two intakes in January and September, offers academic rigour, diversity, excellent career opportunities and an outstanding alumni network.

With three fully-integrated campuses in Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and over 90 different nationalities in the classroom, the school offers a multicultural experience, says Minh Huy Lai, Managing Director, MBA Program.
