IESE MBA 2019 Employment Report: Average Salary at €85,046 for the Class

In the Class of 2019 at IESE Business School of the University of Navarra, Spain managed to get an average salary of €85,046 (about $93,357), recording a 4.7% increase over the past two years, according to the B-school’s Employment Report.

IESE MBA Employment Highlights

The highest average pay by region, €117,083 (about $128,575) was reported by graduates employed in the Middle East / Africa.  However, the highest salary of €183,101 ($201,107) was in Industry in North America.

Sector-wise, those in Consulting bagged the highest base starting salary at €94,630 ($103,898) followed by Finance at €83,610 ($91,770), industry €79,225 ($86,956) and tech €76,629 ($84,106).

Another compensation average was €50,228 ($55,103). The highest average was in financial services at €64,895 ($71,218). The maximum was also in this sector at €225,535 ($247,915).

About 21% of the class managed a triple jump, changing their industry, job function and location after graduation.

In the Class of 2019, 34% had engineering, 26% business, 15% economics, 10% science educational background.

IESE MBA Sector-wise Employment

Consulting topped sector-wise employment mopping up 33% of the cohort with McKinsey & Company and Roland Berger among the employers. Interestingly, only 12% had previous experience in the sector. In the year 2017, about 27% of the class had opted for Consulting.

Meanwhile, the Technology sector managed to woo 26%, up from 20% and a whopping increase of 62% compared to the recruitment percentage in 2017. E-Commerce and several majors including Amazon, Google, and Facebook offered roles to the graduates.

Financial Services took in 20% with Citi and Bank of America Merrill Lynch being major recruiters. The industry sector that included Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Retail, mopped up 21%.

IESE MBA Employment by Function

In Employment by Function, Consulting took 33% followed by Finance (17%), General Management and Others (9% each), MBA rotational Program (8%), Operation & Logistics (7%) Product Management (4%) and Corporate Strategy (2%).

IESE MBA Employment by Region

In the class with a total of 356 students, 21% chose Consulting roles in Africa and the Middle East and another 21% remained in Spain and 26% accepted roles in the rest of Europe. For those in the Tech sector, 27% got employment in Spain or in other European countries.

Overall, 25% found work in Spain, 42% in the rest of Europe, 14% in Latin America, 4% in North America and 3% in the Middle East and Africa.

The school said 94% of the class accepted a job offer within three months of graduation, up from 92% in 2017.

The class saw an increase in women representation at 32% compared to 28% in 2017. The average work experience went up marginally from 5 to 5.5 years during the same period.
