ONEConnect 2016, organized by the World’s No.1 website for news and guidance on One Year Full Time MBA courses – OneYearMBA.co.in, held at Cyberhub, Gurgaon on October 6, was a grand success in terms of footfalls and business school participation leading to greater awareness about the programs.
The event was aimed at providing a unique opportunity for MBA aspirants with rich work experience, keen on joining a One Year Full Time MBA program in India, to meet representatives of top business schools to clear their queries regarding various aspects related to admissions such as eligibility norms, fee structure, application process, deadlines, scholarships and information about post MBA career growth.
IIM, Lucknow, IIM, Indore, Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, MYRA School of Business, Mysore and Woxsen School of Business, Hyderabad, admitONE GMAT Prep & Admissions Consulting participated in the event at the National Capital Region’s (NCR) corporate hub.
We caught up at the sidelines of the event with representatives from each B-School to understand the unique benefits of their B-School’s course and recent developments in their programmes.
Dr Moutusy Maity, Associate Professor, Marketing, IIM Lucknow said the USP of the one-year International Programme in Management for Executives (IPMX) was that it was being held in a separate campus with all the facilities best suited for the program.
Now in its 10th batch, the program has 70 students on the rolls. The program does not have an age bar. IIML has a dedicated placement cell. It also conducts year round outreach programs.
Dr. Daisy Chauhan, Chairperson Admissions & Professor, Organisational Behavior, MDI said Professionals with a minimum 5 years work experience are eligible to join the program. At the time of admission, the candidate’s academic record, scores of either the CAT, MDI Test or GMAT are taken into consideration. Personal interviews are held at Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bangalore.
Dr. Sangeeta Shah Bharadwaj, Professor, Information Management, MDI told OneYearMBA that the Institute was the first in India to start the 1-year National Management Program (NMP) in 1988 following a suggestion by then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. He wanted capacity building for PSU executives and the NMP was introduced for the purpose.
The AICTE-approved program, at present, has 90% self sponsored students and only 105 sponsored by the PSUs. The programme is also accredited as a Full Time MBA by Association of MBAs, UK (AMBA).
Classes start in the first week of April. MDI test is held in the first Sunday of January. The successful candidates thus get two months to wind up their jobs or other concerns prior to joining the program, she added. NMP has a total strength of 100 students divided into two batches of 50 each.
Asked about programs with an orientation towards entrepreneurship in view of the government’s thrust for ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India’, she said MDI was engaged in entrepreneurship capacity building through accelerated program for start-ups.
It also runs a 1-year Energy Management Program that used to attract executives from the State Electricity Boards earlier, but was now having a more diversified students pool.
About placements, N.R. Bhusnur Math, Professor of Finance & Banking, MDI said it was almost entirely student driven with the faculty nominally overseeing the functioning of the placements committee.
MDI has also tie ups with European business schools including HEC, Paris and ESCP that provide the students an option to gain international exposure.
The Mysore-based MYRA Business School, in keeping with the changing times and market demand, has introduced new courses, especially data analytics, “in many avatars,” says Dr. Sivakumar S, Assistant Professor, Operations Management.
MYRA offers a 1-year specialisation executive certification or full executive program. It launched the Centre of Excellence for Data Analytics and Business Insights (CEDABI) on March 11, 2016 that offers 6 courses coving both process and function under the guidance of Dr. Michael Shepherd, CEO and Professor.
For executive education, niche courses are being offered on financial risk management and block chain technology. Participants in the executive program should have 5 years work experience.
MYRA offers 24 courses and follows the immersion method of teaching wit h focus on one subject for 2 weeks to enable the students to gain in-depth understanding along with project work. Unlike several other B-schools, MYRA was offering entrepreneurship as a core course.
The Hyderabad based Woxsen School of Business started its 1-year PGPX program in 2014. It is the only management institute to offer programs in Design-Fashion as well as Interior products.
For incubating and mentoring student’s startups, the Woxsen Trade Tower offers opportunities to test and refine the ideas with guidance from faculty, external mentors and fellow students. Those ideas that qualify through this process will be subjected to further scrutiny by senior levels of stakeholders. The successful proposals will get financing from members of Woxsen Fund, an investment corpus, said Divya Rupainwar, Deputy Manager – Marketing & Communications, Woxsen School Of Business.
Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIMI)’s One Year Full Time MBA’s (Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management – EPGP) USP is the flexibility the program offers. New courses are introduced based on votes from the students subject to a set minimum number. The one-year program is popular with students as well as recruiters with higher salary offers.
Asked about OneConnect 2016 Event, the participating B-Schools were unanimous in declaring it as a great platform for MBA aspirants in familiarising themselves with the 1-year programs, that were being offered under different names by business schools.
Such events take the product directly to the customers and get more footfalls, located at Cyberhub, the most happening place in Gurgaon, Prof. Abinash Panda, Associate Professor, Organizational Behavior, MDI, said.
