A Career in Finance? Get the Skills with Masters in Financial Analysis (MFA)

The 1-year full time Masters in Financial Analysis (MFA) program at the London Business School (LBS) is aimed at those wanting to build a strong foundation for a career in Finance sector with a curriculum built on the five fundamental pillars of corporate finance, asset management, accounting, financial markets and financial econometrics.

The first batch started classes in September 2016. While some of the courses are exclusive for the program, MFA participants attend some of the established courses along with MBA and Masters in Finance (MiF) students. The next batch is scheduled to begin in September with registration opening in August.

The Career Centre at LBS offers a comprehensive programme with the tools you need to make job search focused and effective. Through coaching, mock interview sessions, lectures and online training, the graduates will be ready to make the right impression.

Program Schedule

In Term 1 (September-December) the core subjects will be: World Economy, Asset Management, Analysis of Financial Statements, Corporate Finance, Data and Time Series Analytics followed by Career Week. Winter break will have Silicon Valley and Hong Kong/Shanghai Global Immersion Field Trips and Electives (GIFT).

The second term (January-March 2018) will have Core subjects: Advanced Asset Management, Capital Structure, Strategic Analysis, Securities Valuation & Financial Modelling and Financial Institutions. Electives will be Business and Communication Skills followed by Business Immersion Week.

Spring break will feature Milan/Munich and Paris GIFT and electives. The third term (April-June 2018) will have Core subjects: Mergers & Acquisitions, Personal Finance followed by GIFT in Barcelona and New York. It will be followed by Congregation in July and Personal Development Final Report in August to conclude the program.

Class of 2017

The MFA class of 2017 comprises 80 students with 28% female representation. The average age of the participants is 23. The average GMAT score is 708. The average GRE quants score is 169and the average GRE verbal score 159.

Participants from Europe (excluding UK) form 48% of the class followed by East Asia at 23% and South East/South Asia at 11%. In education background, 33% are from Economics, 29% Accounting/Finance and 24% Business/Management.

Jonni Glick, student of the first batch, in a blog post says being a new program, there were areas that needed further development. “Being the first cohort gives us the opportunity to work with the Progam Office and school to add extras and give constructive feedback which will help improve future years.”

Students could also customise their MFA experience and explore new areas with three electives selected from the cross-school portfolio. Through a cross-generational learning environment, they will strengthen connections with MiMs, MBAs, Masters in Finance students, Sloan Fellows and Executive MBAs, to build a strong network.

Fees & Other Expenses

The total Fees for the programme starting are £32,550. It includes all tuition, course materials (excluding text books) and a contribution to the London Business School Student Association.

On being granted admission, a commitment fee of £1,500 is to be paid within approximately three weeks of receiving the offer and then a reservation fee of £6,000 within approximately six weeks. These fees are non-refundable and will be deducted from the total tuition fees. Late applicants, who are accepted, will pay the tuition fees in a shorter amount of time.
