Surbhi Chauhan, who is perusing a course in HR from SOIL said, “I have been interning with Genpact for a little over a month. Although it has not been long time, but my experience has been rewarding so far. My project here is of Master Data Base Management and streamlining of Executive hiring process. I am fortunate to gain a firsthand experience about various HR processes in such a short span of time, meetings with recruiters and interviewing AVP level candidates. Genpact truly cares about every intern and has provided a stimulating and supportive environment that has helped me realize my true potential.”
Another Student Shivali kapoor who is interning with MakeMyTrip said, “I am having a great time at makemytrip. I am working with the talent acquisition team under the Assistant Manager of HR. I am learning the entire recruitment process, including cold calling and coordinating interviews. Overall, the learning has been excellent!”
Summer Internships are an important part of an MBA course and many one-year MBA courses, not just those in India but globally too, skip on this crucial component. Time limitations in a fast paced one-year full-time course are cited as the most common limiting factor in having internships in their courses by B-Schools in Europe and USA.
Many B-Schools in India on the other hand tend to believe that internships are redundant since One Year MBA students already come with industry experience. This is far from true. Internships are a well established pipeline for hiring – the internship period helps companies evaluate future hires which often leads to a job offer. Also many students pursue an MBA to switch roles – an internship helps students learn the ropes in a new role.
Some schools in India such as IIM Bangalore have created special programmes such as Shikshu that enable virtual internships and help overcome the problem of limited time in a One Year MBA.

SOIL says the internships have helped SOIL Students land jobs last year at leading companies. There were 8 pre-placement offers (PPO) & pre-placement interviews (PPI) (offers made and interviews conducted by companies during internships and before the formal placement) last year. Genpact, VECV, Mahindra, Dabur, Kohler and HCL were some of the companies that made these PPI and PPO Offers last year.
Genpact, a major recruiter at SOIL has had good things to say about students who interned and finally joined them in full-time roles. Bhavna Batra, AVP Human Resource Genpact says, “Students hired from SOIL have a unique ‘ability to execute’ and ensure that the delivery of results happen on time”.
