A massive open online course (MOOC) is an online course aimed at large-scale open access via the web for students not enrolled with a school. As one can imagine, this innovation has had a huge contribution in democratizing access to knowledge for students who for various reasons may not be able to join a college.
HEC is the latest to join the growing bandwagon of colleges offering their course content for open access. HEC’s courses will be available on Coursera from early 2014 and will start with two MOOCs led by HEC Paris Professors Alberto Alemanno and Pascal Quiry.
The initial two courses will be on the topics of European Law and Corporate Finance respectively which will be of interest to MBA students. This will thus open up the opportunity for students and entrepreneurs across the globe to benefit from the expertise of the HEC faculty.
‘This new partnership is fresh proof of HEC Paris’ dynamic teaching and of the recognition which our school enjoys alongside the most prestigious international institutions,’ said Bernard Ramanantsoa, Dean at HEC Paris. ‘This partnership with Coursera offers HEC an opportunity to open up our courses to people who might not usually have access to higher education, whether for practical or economic considerations. Sharing our faculty’s expertise with the general public at no cost is a truly exciting and meaningful challenge!’
