BANGALORE, OCTOBER 16, 2014: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) is set to host Sammantran, an inter-collegiate business competition and conclave, that will engage students from one-year MBA programmes across India in a battle of wits.

The inaugural event is being organized by the students of the one-year full time MBA (Executive Post-Graduate Programme – EPGP) on October 18.

Sammantran comprises of two main events – Consulting Conclave and Case Challenge. Leaders from the management consulting industry representing KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Zinnov Consulting and Frost & Sullivan will participate in a moderated discussion on the theme, ‘Reinventing Consulting’. The theme urges the industry leaders to closely examine the way sustainable consulting practices can be built in a rapidly evolving business climate.

Disruptive technologies such as Social Media, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud have transformed the existing business models. Disruption affects customer behavior, industry development, and human motivation and is reshaping the models of consulting. In this challenging business environment, consultants have to seek new ways of providing value to the customer. Hence, the central theme will provide the participants with an opportunity to discuss and understand from eminent think tanks of the industry about the evolution of strategies and what to expect in this new era.

Over 100 teams from 24 reputed business schools across the country participated in the preliminary rounds of the Case Challenge event. Six teams – from IIM Ahmedabad (PGPX), IIM Bangalore (EPGP), IIM Calcutta (PGPEX), IIM Lucknow (IPMX) and ISB – were chosen as the finalists after a rigorous evaluation process.

These teams are going to vie for top honors and prizes worth Rs. 1 lakh in the finals that will be held at IIM Bangalore on October 18. The final round will entail a business case on social entrepreneurship. The case deals with the challenges encountered in opening a college in a rural part of Madhya Pradesh. The intention by the social entrepreneur should be to educate the youth and increase their employability.

Praveen Mokkapati, spokesperson of Sammantran and a student of EPGP, said: “The event brings together the best minds from leading business schools across the country. The intention behind organizing Sammantran is to set up a platform for business students to network and learn from industry leaders. This year’s event sets the tone for the coming years.”
