IIM Indore EPGP Students Bag 1st Prize at UT Austin Social Media Analytics Challenge
0Students of Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP) of Indian Institute of Management Indore (2017-18 batch) have bagged the first prize in IIM Indore/UT Austin Social Media Analytics Challenge 2017.
Social Media Analytics is an exciting new field wherein organizations often look for a competitive edge using social media monitoring and analytics tool to identify customer sentiment and to measure marketing effectiveness in the social realm.
The students were in Austin during their international study visit to Red McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, a top-ranked University in the US, IIM Indore said in a press release.
Professor Ashish Sadh, Chair, EPGP & Faculty, IIM Indore congratulated the participants on their remarkable achievements and stressed upon the importance of business analytics in the increasingly globalized economic environment.
The EPGP team comprised Ankush Sharma, Bikash Kumar, Manmeet Khalsa, Pankaj Rai, Shashikant Jha, Somnath Das, Sourav Banerjee and Srinjoy Dasgupta.
The team analysed and presented the social media assessment on an American immigration policy known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and shared their insights using various social media tools and gave a recommendation as per its findings.
The 5-week international immersion module at McCombs is an integral part of IIM Indore’s EPGP program. The students have to complete an Advanced Program in Analytics for Business Excellence at the University. The participants stay in the campus during the entire 4th term and are taught by McCombs professors.
The course outline covered contemporary topics of global business such as Digital Networked Economy, Hyper Competition, Entrepreneurship, Social Media and Business Analytics.
Besides completing an Advanced Program in Analytics for Business Excellence, the current batch of 48 students participated in corporate visits such as Dell Inc. and ‘Entrepreneurship Live!’, an event hosted by The Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship, Growth and Renewal.
They also got a chance to meet famous personalities such as Bob Metcalfe, Co-Founder of Ethernet and Rob Malcolm, Former President at Diageo. The course outline covered contemporary topics of global business such as Digital Networked Economy, Hyper Competition, Entrepreneurship, Social Media and Business Analytics.
The runners-up team presented on social media reaction to various policies of the current NDA government in India. A couple of teams got honourable mentions for their work on a Mexican Restaurant “Chipotle” and on predictive analysis on blockbuster movie releases based on social media analytics respectively.

The EPGP is an intensive 1-year residential program, specially designed to enhance knowledge, skills and capabilities essential for managing and leading organizations. It combines skill building with the exploration of good management practices.
The program has been accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) London. In addition to a comprehensive functional core module, there are elective courses aligned with the industry concentration identified for the program such as Analytics, BFSI, e-Commerce, Operations & Strategy, etc.
