IIM Indore’s 4th batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPMX) was inaugurated in Mumbai on Sunday, January 18, 2015 in the presence of Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore, and several faculty and staff members of the Institute.
The PGPMX, offered in Mumbai, is a two-year part-time MBA course. Students pursue the course on alternate weekends. The course is targeted at professionals who would like to continue working while pursuing management education.
IIM I says the the course is a unique solution for professionals who would like to take the opportunity to become transformational leaders and innovative solution creators in their respective organizations, but find it difficult to pursue a full-time programme in management. PGPMX is designed to provide flexibility to working executives to be engaged in their respective professions and at the same time to upgrade their knowledge base simultaneously.
This year, 22 participants registered for the course.
Post the registration and lamp-lighting ceremony, Professor Krishnan formally inaugurated the Programme and welcomed the participants. In his inaugural address, Professor Krishnan acquainted the participants with the course and the Institute. Professor Shubhamoy Dey, Faculty of Information Systems area and Chair, PGPMX, introduced the participants to the Programme, noted its unique features and the Institute’s expectations from the participants.
His speech was followed by a lecture on ‘Library and Plagiarism’ by Dr. Akhtar Parvez. The event concluded with another lecture on ‘Case Study Teaching Method’, delivered by Professor Dey.
The PGPMX at Mumbai is open to candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent and at least 5 years of managerial or professional Experience.
This is the fourth year of the PGPMX programme at IIM I. Classes for the course will continue to be held at ICSI – Centre for Corporate Governance, Research & Training (CCGRT) in Belapur in Navi Mumbai.
While the course nomenclature is similar to the PGPX at IIM A, these two courses should not be confused with each other – the PGPMX is a part-time programme for working executives while the PGPX is a full-time one year programme for candidates with work experience who leave their jobs to join the B-School as full time students.
One wishes the IIMs would work together on clearing up the branding for its One Year Full Time and part-time MBA courses just the way PGP has a consistant branding across the IIMs. Student’s can’t tell one course from the other given that they all liberally use the ‘executive’ word whether the programme is a part-time MBA or not. Internationally the word ‘executive’ is used in the nomenclature for a course only if it is a part-time programme which executives attend alongside work.
Among other post-graduate level general management programmes, IIM I also offers a One Year Full Time MBA (EPGP) that is a residential course targeted at candidates with work experience and a two-year full time PGP course targeted at recent graduates.
