IIM Indore (IIM I) held twin conferences on Analytics and Finance on campus on May 2, 2014 and May 3, 2014. Both fields of study have been identified as focus areas by IIM Indore in the curriculum of its One Year MBA (EPGP) and the conferences provided the students a close interaction with leaders from both the fields.
Indian Institute of Management Indore organized a Business Analytics Conclave Analyze That! on Friday, May 2, 2014 at the IIM Indore campus, followed by a Finance Conference on May 3, 2014.
As per the B-school, this initiative is in tune with its recent change in curriculum to focus on the changing business decision making environment – driven by data and less by hunches.
The conclave was organized by the One Year Full Time MBA (Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management -EPGP) participants.
During the event, Ashish Shingru, Senior Director, ebay discussed the adoption of multivariate data analysis by the industry. He shared how eBay is using Analytics to drive more sales for its sellers and how they help customers choose the right products by tracking previous purchase trends (recommendation engine).
Goutam Das, Global Head, Business Analytics Delivery, TCS spoke about how TCS helped its customer derive more insights into their marketing efforts using anlaytics. He went on to share case studies from TCS on the subject.
Sagar Paul, Head – Engagement Platforms at Mu Sigma spoke about using Analytics in every aspect of business from managing variations in sales channels to providing insights into budget allocation for each function in the business unit. He also spoke about the need to make managers more receptive to data and to taking decisions based on it.
On 3rd May, the institute played host to the 1st edition of Future Finance 2014, a BFSI Conclave. The conclave witnessed enthusiastic participation from speakers, faculty and EPGP participants.
Anupam Johri, Chief Representative (South Asia) at RB International, discussed the challenges in organizing syndicated loans, the pitfalls and opportunities.
There were valuable inputs from investment experts such as Peeyoosh Chadda, former Chief Investment Officer at Edelweiss who spoke about algorithmic trading, high frequency trading, prediction markets and picking that winning stock.
R Shashibhushan, CEO at Way2wealth spoke about the various products and services offered to HNIs, and trends in that market.
There was lively engagement from both the audience and the speakers. The speakers were happy to find out that the current batch of EPGP participants are very active in the equity markets!
The One Year Full Time MBA (Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management -EPGP) at IIM Indore, India which is now in its 5th year, inducts candidates with a minimum of five years of work experience and consequently is the first programme at IIM Indore to meet global accreditation criteria for an MBA programme as mandated by Association of MBAs, UK. Five years of work experience is the average for the incoming class in MBA programmes worldwide.
