How is CAT Percentile Calculated?
Calculation of CAT percentile involves three steps:
In CAT, three marks are awarded for each correct answer and one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. However, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers in non-MCQ type questions.
- First, the section-wise scores of each candidate are calculated after which the overall score is arrived at by totaling the section-wise scores.
- Next, these section-wise and overall scores (raw scores) are normalized to arrive at the scaled CAT score.
- These normalized scores are then converted into percentiles which are reported in the CAT scorecard.
What is CAT Normalization Process?
The CAT exam is conducted in two slots and the difficulty level is different in both the slots. In order to ensure a fair marking system, CAT authorities have adopted a normalization process wherein the marks of each candidate are scaled.
