NMAT 2019 Examination Analysis

The NMAT 2019 exam was conducted in a 75-day test window, which commenced on October 5 and ended on December 17, 2019 and it was held at 46 test centres all over India. This year, the NMAT exam was slightly tougher when compared to NMAT 2018 and NMAT 2017.

The pattern, however, was the same. Here is a complete analysis of NMAT 2019, including the NMAT exam pattern and sectional overview.

Highlights of NMAT 2019 Exam Analysis

• The NMAT 2019 was moderate in terms of difficulty levels.
• The 2019 NMAT question paper was as expected and there were no surprises
• The Logical Reasoning section was a little challenging
• NMAT cut off of NMIMS Mumbai Campus is expected to come down to 207- 209 considering the difficulty levels
• NMAT Cut off of NMIMS Hyderabad and NMIMS Bangalore is expected to be around 190

NMAT 2019 Analysis: Overall Exam Difficulty Level

When compared to the previous years, this year the exam was moderately difficult. The Logical Reasoning section was the toughest and the Language Skill and Quantitative Skills sections were simple and as expected, similar to the previous year.

Quantitative Skills

Based on the evaluation of experts, the Quantitative Skills section was between simple and moderate. There were a total of 48 questions from topics including− problem solving, data interpretation and data sufficiency. There were 23 questions from the problem-solving section, 20 questions from the data interpretation section and 5 questions from the data sufficiency section.

• Data sufficiency section contained questions based on numbers including odd and even numbers and divisibility
• Questions were based on modern Math and Arithmetic. Algebra type questions were not asked.

Data Sufficiency- All 5 Questions on Numbers, Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate

Based on the analysis of experts, solving close to 33-35 questions with 85% accuracy, can fetch a good score in this section. The DI section is an important section when it comes to scoring.

Language Skills

The Language Skills section was quite simple and was similar to the previous year’s question pattern. It contained two RC passages of 450 to 500 words, with 4 questions. The RC topics were − “Air Pollution and the Role of Automobiles’ and ‘Importance of Moral Education for Children.’

The remaining questions were centered around grammar and vocabulary. It also included questions on spotting the error in the underlined parts of a sentence, fill in the blanks, jumbled paragraphs, word analogies, synonyms, antonyms and meaning of phrase. An attempt of 24-26 questions with 85% accuracy should help in achieving a good score.

Logical Reasoning

Based on the evaluation of the NMAT 2019 exam, the LR section had minor structural changes. There were 24 questions on non-verbal reasoning and 16 questions on verbal reasoning.  Last year, it was 25 questions in non-verbal and 15 questions in verbal reasoning section.
