

The TOEFL syllabus for iBT evaluates the candidates reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. The TOEFL test Pattern is intended to assess various skills of the candidates and to gauge the English language proficiency levels. In this section, you will read about 3-5 passages and answer 12-14 questions based on each passage. Your score is based on the number of correct answers to the questions on the reading comprehension.
Question type: 3–4 passages, 10 questions each
Total no. of questions: About 40
Total time: 54-72 minutes

In this section, you will listen to audio clips containing both short conversations and long conversations. After the short conversation, you will be asked one question and you will have to choose your answer from a multiple choice of answers. With reference to the long conversations, you will be asked multiple questions.
Question type: a) 3–4 lectures (3-5 minutes long, about 500-800 words), 6 questions each; About 30 questions in total
b) 2–3 conversations (about 3 minutes long, about 12-25 exchanges), 5 questions each; About 12 questions in total
Total no. of questions: 40+
Total time: 41–57 minutes
To get a high score in the Speaking Section, you should be able to give a suitable and error-free response to the questions asked. You are graded based on your ability to have a highly intelligible and sustained conversation. The scores for this section are on the basis of three main factors.

Total time: 17 minutes
In this section, your essay should effectively convey the essence of the topic. Your response should be well-structured and it should be supported using relevant explanations. The essay should exhibit a clear progression of ideas and coherence in the points put forward. A grammatically correct essay with the right punctuations and appropriate words will help you fetch a high score.
