One Year MBA in India Vs Executive MBA: Clear the Confusion
Through this post, we would like to give readers a clear picture of the difference between One Year MBA and an Executive MBA (EMBA). The EMBA program is offered in countries like China, the US, Singapore, and even Europe.
The EMBA program is usually taken up by senior executives who want to up their qualifications and salary prospects without leaving their jobs. Likewise, the Executive MBA in India is quite popular among Indian executives.
The first full-time MBA programme, equivalent to the European MBA program, was launched in India by ISB Hyderabad in 2001. It was known as the Post Graduate Program (PGP). However, they brought a stipulation that required students to have few years of work experience.
Following suit, IIM Ahmedabad started its own ‘Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives in 2006. This was a One Year, residential program called PGPX. Likewise, the ‘Post Graduate Programme for Executives’ or PGPEX was started by IIM Calcutta.
A similar programme was begun by IIM Bangalore called ‘Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management’ or EPGP in 2009. All these courses are 1-year residential programmes. With the IIM Act 2017 passed, they award students with the Master of Business Administration degree upon successful completion of the One Year MBA programme.

Besides, AICTE, the sole educational regulator in India, allowed PGDM B-schools to start the ‘Executive PGDM’ for students. The ‘Executive PGDM’ is a residential programme that lasts for 15 months.
