QS World University Rankings 2016, HBS Regains Number 1 Spot
0The 13th annual edition of the QS World University Rankings 2016 (Business and Management Studies), saw Harvard Business School (HBS) regain top position it lost to London Business School (LBS) in 2015.
Compiled by global higher education think tank Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the QS World University Rankings provides an index of the world’s leading higher education institutions, based on six performance indicators.
The ranking has been expanded this year to feature 916 universities (25 more than last year) in 81 countries, following an assessment of more than 3,800 institutions.
Harvard notched up an overall score of 97.0 that takes into account the academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper and H-index citations. This is a slight improvement over previous year’s score of 96.2.
LBS, however, dropped to the second spot with a fall in its overall score from 96.8 in 2015 to 95.0 this year. INSEAD retained its third position even though its score dropped from 95.6 in the previous year to 94.3 in 2016.
Stanford University too retained the 4th rank with a slight improvement of its score to 92.6 from the previous year’s 92.0. Likewise, University of Pennsylvania was 5th with its score going up from 91.3 to 92.1.
In the 6th place came Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a score of 92.0 a slight rise over 91.3 in 2015. University of Cambridge replaced Bocconi University in the 7th place with Bocconi being pushed to 10th rank. University of Oxford retained its 8th rank along with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the 9th spot.
None of the Indian Management institutes, in the public sector or private, figure among the top 100. Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore maintain their 2015 ranking at 101 while IIM Calcutta is ranked 151. Apart from IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay, these are the only institutes from India in the list of 200.
IIMA, in ranking by subjects, gets a score of 70.5 by academic reputation, 71.4 employer reputation, 59.9 citations per paper and 60.4 in H-index citations.
None of the Indian Management institutes, in the public sector or private, figure among the top 100. In QS WU rankings by faculty, it is placed at 347 in 2015, a drop from 305 in 2014. It has an overall score of 59.10, academic reputation of 63.8, employer reputation of 71.7, citations per paper of 29.4 and H-index citation of 27.9.
IIMB gets (in ranking by subject) 66.3 for academic reputation, 68.9 for employer reputation, 75.1 for citations per paper and 71.4 H-index citations.
In rankings by faculty, it dropped from 290 in 2014 to 349 in 2015. The overall score is 59.00, academic reputation 62.4, employer reputation 67.5, citations per paper 39.8 and H-index citations 35.3.
IIMC, in rankings by subject, scores 62 in academic reputation, 68 in employer reputation, 69.9 citations per paper and 68.2 in H-index citation. Ranking by faculty was unavailable.
