IIM Calcutta’s placement process for its globally accredited full-time MBA (one-year full-time post graduate programme for executives – PGPEX) has seen a 24.8% increase in top salary offer from a year ago to Rs 33.7 lakh.
Average salary for the eighth PGPEX Class at IIM Calcutta (IIM C) has jumped too his year, climbing 21.6% from last year to Rs.22.69 lakh, according to a statement issued by the institute.
As compared to the two-year PGP programme at IIM C, PGPEX inducts students with substantial work-experience and is the first and only programme at IIM C to meet global norms for a full time MBA course. The PGPEX is accredited as an MBA by Association of MBAs (AMBA) while the longer running two-year PGP course is accredited as a Masters in Business Management (a course for freshers).
In keeping with its status as an MBA, placements from the PGPEX programme are at a senior management level. This year 55 companies made 54 offers to 44 candidates (three joined their previous organisation while one opted out) for mid-management to senior management-level jobs as opposed to entry level jobs offered to graduates of the two-year course at IIM C.
Among the companies that participated in the placement process for the batch of 50 students were Accenture, Amazon, Dell, Microsoft, Google, Ford Motors (IT), Snapdeal, Atos Consulting, Deloitte Touche, Oracle, CESC, Omni Active and Micromax.
IT/consulting and IT products firms led the charge, with 12 and 10 offers each, followed by e-commerce companies that came up with eight offers. Other sectors that hired aggressively included analytics, KPO, power, BPO and real estate.
“As the placement statistics show, industry seems to increasingly prize such talented and committed people,” said Rajiv Kumar, chairperson, career development & placement office at IIM Calcutta. “The senior roles that the students of graduating batch have bagged convey the confidence industry has posed in the ability of PGPEX students of IIM Calcutta to contribute toward organizational growth.”
