Study Abroad Program an Integral Part of UNB Saint John’s International MBA
0The University of New Brunswick Saint John’s International Business Program helps MBA students make the leap from textbook case studies to first-hand, international business management experience with a required study abroad in China, or France during the 1-year program.
The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is a public university with two primary campuses, located in Fredericton and Saint John, New Brunswick. It is the oldest English-language university in Canada.
Besides being able to develop an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing global enterprises, the participants are also able to build up a network of colleagues and contacts spread out across the world.
The School has also partnered with established global organizations, the majority concentrated on the continents of North America, Europe and Asia – in particular China and India, to make the program, available in either the one-year or part-time format, an enriching experience.
The study abroad program forms an integral part of the International Business MBA curriculum and provides insight into distant markets. By sharing accommodations, working and studying with North American, Chinese, Indian or French consumers and business managers, the students get the diverse perspective and hands-on education they need to compete globally.
The total tuition fees and other expenses work out to Canadian $ 18,876 for domestic students. It will be Canadian $ 26,342 for international students with the addition of International Differential fee of Canadian $ 6,500 and Health Insurance of Canadian $ 966.
The participants could choose to take European studies in France or Asian studies in China or India, while the North American stream of study is taught at UNB Saint John. The study abroad portion takes place during the final fall term, from September to December. As a result, this program will be 15 months in length, rather than 12.
In the International Business stream, students have a new opportunity at UNB partner school Burgundy School of Business (AACSB Accredited) in France, for studying an additional 8 months to complete MBA as well as an MSc in one of the following areas: Advanced Corporate Finance, Global Marketing & Negotiation, International Business Development, Wine Management.
Admission Requirements
An undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university, equal to a Canadian four-year or 120 credit program, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of “B” (or 3.0 from a maximum of 4.3). A 3-year Honours degree will also be considered.
The minimum requirement for admission is a GMAT score of 550. However, students with a Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.2/4.3 or higher may be eligible for a GMAT waiver. The decision to waive the GMAT rests with the admission committee. CGPA higher than a 3.2/4.3 does not a guarantee a waiver.
Applicants who have previously completed other graduate level exams such as Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) are also welcome to apply, and their exam results will be assessed according to the percentile achieved. If the score is equivalent to a 550 GMAT the applicant will not need to write the GMAT.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or equivalent, is required from applicants whose mother tongue is not English. This may be waived for applicants who have a recent secondary school diploma or university degree from an institution whose language of instruction is English. To be eligible for this waiver, you should also have spoken English in the workplace.
The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 580 (240 on the computer-based test or 93 on the Internet based test) plus a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5. If the TOEFL score achieved is less than the acceptable level, applicants will be required to complete additional language training with Saint John College prior to joining the MBA program.
Applicants are required to have, at minimum, two years of consecutive and relevant post-graduate professional work experience. Management or executive-level experience is not necessary and work experience acquired outside of Canada counts, as does accredited co-op work experience.
Include a current resume with your application. It should provide a detailed description of your professional experience. In addition write a one to two page personal statement on why you want to study the MBA program. Three recommendations in total from both academic and professional sources are required.
Application Procedure
You can now apply online. Applications are only reviewed when all necessary parts have been received by the university. Delays in receiving recommendations or transcripts will cause delays in reviewing applications. You can reduce the processing time significantly by ensuring that all documents are included, along with the non-refundable application fee of $100 Canadian dollars.
The application deadline for the MBA program is July 15 and June 15 for the MBA Qualifying Year of each year. However, a “rolling” admission process is used, ensuring that completed applications are reviewed as soon as they are received. It is recommended that you submit your application early in order to secure your place in the program.
Applications are presented to the admission committee for consideration. Applicants will hear from the committee within four weeks of the university receiving a complete application.
For full-time students to be eligible for merit awards, the application deadline is May 30 of each year. If applying after June 1, international students must consider the time necessary to obtain a study permit.
