Introduction
The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) degree at IIM B, equivalent to a Master of Business Administration (MBA), is a two-year full-time residential master’s level program.
The PGP, is one of the highly placed programs in global rankings that are tailored to enable students to take on leadership roles in an increasingly complex and dynamic global scenario. The two years are carefully divided into six trimesters with a summer project intermediary.
Alumni of PGP run successful entrepreneurial ventures and are spread across the globe in leading organizations in the areas of sales, marketing, consulting, finance and investment banking, etc. Due to its sustained placement record, IIMB is identified as a source of talent by multinational corporations.
PGP 2020 batch at IIMB has a class profile consisting of 419 engineering students, 12 arts and humanities students, 41 commerce graduates, 1 pharmacy or pharmacology graduate, and 12 students who have their bachelors in pure theoretical sciences.
The percentage of engineering students has increased from 82.99 in 2019 to 85.57 in 2020.
The overseas students have a highest GMAT score of 770 and the lowest score of 640, giving a mean score of 725 and a median score of 730.
The students for 2020 have a varied experience profile where 75 students have no experience at all and 78 and 147 have one and two years of experience, respectively. 184 students have experience of more than two years.
The class is relatively young, with 340 students being below 25, 136 students ranging between 25 and 28 years of age. There are only nine students who cross this threshold.

WAT and Personal Interview
Shortlisted candidates in India will be called to test their written ability through Writing Ability Test (WAT) and for a personal interview based on percentile in CAT, marks obtained in 10th, 10+2 and graduation, gender diversity and applicable work experience if any.

The programme offers various core and elective courses. Core courses are mandatory courses offered in the first year.
PGP offers elective courses both during the last term of first year and in the second year, where the students get an opportunity to choose from a variety of multi-disciplinary courses and courses with functional depth.
Following formats may be used for course delivery: lectures, classroom discussions, industry interactions, case studies, individual and group projects, term papers, role plays, dissertations, business games, films and various experiential learning methods.
Credits
The weightage of a course is defined by the concept of credit. A three-credit course must involve about 100 hours of work – 30% in the classroom and the rest for preparation and assignments.
Courses and Credits – First year
During the first year, a student is required to complete 16 core courses and 2 elective courses. Through the core courses, the students are exposed to basic concepts in the areas of Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Organization Design, Human Resources Management, Quantitative Methods, and Operations Management that help lay the groundwork for problem solving skills and all functional areas of management.
Summer Internship
Between the end of first year and beginning of second year students undergo a summer internship. However, the internship is optional for students with a minimum 34 months of work experience before joining the institute.

The student must get a minimum of 45 credits in electives in the second year.

Apart from electives on functional areas, IIMB also offers various types of courses such as language courses (Sanskrit, German, French, Spanish and Japanese), Business Planning in International Markets, Developing Technology Partnerships between Firms in India and Israel, and experiential courses (the Himalayan Mountain Challenge), based on the interest of students.
Faculty of IIMB and Tel Aviv University, Israel offer the conceptualized course, ‘Developing Technology Partnerships between Firms in India and Israel’. As a part of this international immersion work, a group of students travel to Israel.
Courses of Independent Study
PGP students have the privilege to take utmost six credits over the courses of independent study, such as Contemporary Concerns Study or Dissertation.

IIMB has the distinction of offering the maximum number of elective courses among B-schools in India that cover a wide range of topics and keep changing every year based on student’s interests. IIMB allows its students to bid in order to select the elective courses of their choice.
